Sometimes it’s nearly depressing how much good… nay… GREAT music there is out there…
Recently been floating through Soundcloud. I had previously set myself up on the site months ago, never realised its potential until recently. It seems that it’s quite easy to sift through artist after artist… sticking to your favourite artists and by having a look at who they follow and favourite… The quality is astounding sometimes. There is no funny business… just the music, real easy to use… an absolute gold mine! You will get a lot of mixes and podcasts – lots to download for free… everything from the unsigned to the multi-million selling, cocaine sniffing big shots…
For artists the experience is enhanced even more by being able to send tracks to producers, labels, friends and other artists with ease… thus spreading out tracks and getting feedback.
Anyway here are a couple that i came across… some good stuff.
Milyoo – “Brok Mayhew”
First heard this guy on the Hold Box Flat podcast this week.. caught my ear straight away and had to hear it again. This guy creates music in his spare time, stating on his bio “i’m just writing tracks until my stand-up career takes off or someone hires me to manage the world bank.”.
Well if he is as good with world finance as he is with a drum machine let him at it! Banging out tunes like this on a weekly basis… the styles range throughout but there is a focus on breakbeats and smooth sampling. But as he would call it…”Meanamilism” or “Garden Music”…. you can tell your in for a treat form the get go. Lots more music at http://soundcloud.com/milyoo
SubReachers – “Future Blindness”
Deep House, Breakbeat, Dubstep
Every patient intro in the tracks SubReachers are dropping are full of that pent up energy you get when you feel a whole lot of bass just around the corner.. well they deliver… but perhaps that is clear enough in the name. You will need to keep an eye on the subwoofer if you have one… it may cause structural damage at times. These guys are laying down some seriously rich tracks, complex rhythms and sampling. There is a bit of house, breakbeat, nu-detroit going on… anything with a beautiful amount of bass really.
